H.E. Mukhtar Al-Yafei, Minister of Social Affairs and Labour, met today at the Ministry's headquarters in Aden with Mr. Akil Ayar, UNICEF Acting Representative in Yemen, and Mr. Obia Ashing, Deputy Representative, to discuss ways of strengthening the partnership in the areas of social protection and child protection.

The meeting reviewed progress made in finalizing the National Social Protection Framework and the Child Protection Plan, as well as UNICEF's Yemen Country Programme for 2027–2029. Discussions also covered ongoing preparations for the upcoming expanded consultative meeting of partners to be held in Aden.

Minister Al-Yafei emphasized that the National Social Protection Framework is the outcome of an extensive participatory process that incorporated stakeholders' feedback and revisions prior to its submission to the Council of Ministers. He noted that, once approved, the framework will serve as the unified national reference guiding partners' programmes and interventions.

The Minister also highlighted the objectives of the forthcoming consultative meeting, which include fostering a shared vision among stakeholders, addressing overlaps and duplication in programmes, strengthening coordination between the central government, local authorities, and international and national organizations, and clearly defining roles and responsibilities in line with national priorities.

For his part, Mr. Ayar expressed his appreciation for the strong partnership with the Ministry and reaffirmed UNICEF's commitment to supporting the Government's efforts in the areas of social protection and child protection. He also underscored UNICEF's commitment to aligning its 2027–2029 Country Programme with national priorities and enhancing technical coordination to deliver integrated interventions that effectively respond to the needs of children and the most vulnerable groups.
