Al-Zawari Discusses with the United Nations Ways to Enhance the Protection and Empowerment of Women in Yemen

His Excellency the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Dr. Mohammed Saeed Al-Zawari, affirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the role of Yemeni women and empowering them politically and economically, in a way that ensures their active participation in societal issues and the achievement of sustainable development.


This came during his meeting in the interim capital, Aden, with Ms. Dina Zorba, Representative of UN Women in Yemen. The two sides discussed ways to enhance joint cooperation between the ministry and the organization, especially regarding the implementation of the "Women's Protection Leading to Community Development" program.


Minister Al-Zawari highlighted the importance of the 12-month program, implemented in Aden and Taiz, and funded by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center. He explained that the program aims to strengthen the protection of women and girls who have survived gender-based violence and empower them to contribute to the development process.


Al-Zawari appreciated UN Women's support for women's issues and affirmed the ministry’s commitment to expanding partnership areas to implement effective and sustainable interventions that enhance women's participation in peacebuilding and humanitarian work.


For her part, Ms. Zorba expressed the United Nations’ readiness to provide technical support and capacity building for the ministry, local authorities, and civil society organizations, in order to enable Yemeni women to actively participate in shaping the country's future and
