His Excellency the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Mukhtar Al-Yafaei, participated today in the Coordination Meeting of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs, held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City.

The meeting was chaired by Her Excellency the Minister of Social Development of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the current President of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs, Wafaa Bani Mustafa, with the participation of Arab ministers and heads of delegations. The meeting discussed a number of issues and topics of common interest related to the rights of persons with disabilities and the enhancement of Arab coordination in international forums.

Participants reviewed the latest developments concerning the Arab position and shared requirements within the framework of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the relevant targets of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda. They also discussed ways to strengthen Arab efforts in implementing the Second Arab Decade for Persons with Disabilities (2023–2032) and applying the Arab Classification of Disability across Arab countries.

The meeting further addressed follow-up on the implementation of the Amman–Berlin Declaration issued at the 2025 Global Disability Summit, as well as mechanisms for enhancing coordination between the Arab Group in New York and the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs, in a manner that contributes to unifying Arab positions on issues of common concern.

Minister Al-Yafaei reaffirmed Yemen’s commitment to supporting joint Arab efforts aimed at promoting and protecting the rights of persons with disabilities and developing social policies and programs that support them. Such efforts are consistent with international commitments and the Sustainable Development Goals and contribute to enhancing opportunities for their effective participation in society.
