Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Dr. Mohammed Saeed Al-Zauri, reaffirmed the government's support for all international efforts aimed at implementing global best practices, developing the labor market, and addressing shared global challenges, particularly in least developed countries.
During his speech at the roundtable meetings of the Labor Market Conference held in Riyadh—with the participation of over 40 ministers, organizations, and officials representing more than 50 countries—Minister Al-Zauri stated that Yemen’s participation in this event comes amid exceptional circumstances the country is going through. He emphasized that this conference represents a significant global event aimed at opening new horizons for discussions on the future of labor markets and the related challenges.
He stressed the importance of formulating shared visions that contribute to developing work environments at both local and global levels, including facilitating employment opportunities for Yemeni workers abroad, as they represent a vital source of national income for the country.
Al-Zauri noted that the ministry has established a database dedicated to tracking labor market movements as a fundamental step toward developing the sector. He also highlighted that the government has ratified the Arab Labor Organization’s agreement on new work patterns.
Furthermore, he pointed out that Yemen’s labor market faces numerous challenges, exacerbated by the war waged by the terrorist Houthi militia and the ongoing instability, which have deepened structural labor market issues. He stressed the urgent need to create job opportunities through investments in agriculture, the development of the fishing industry, the expansion of mining activities, and linking reconstruction efforts to the local construction sector.
He affirmed that the government remains committed to implementing all necessary reforms and overcoming challenges, expressing his hope for unified international efforts to support the government in these endeavors.
