Social Welfare Fund Board Approves Fiscal Year 2026

Under the chairmanship of His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Saeed Al-Zaouri, Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and Chairman of the Board of the Social Welfare Fund, the Fund's Board of Directors held a pivotal meeting this morning in the capital, Aden. The meeting was attended by the Fund's Executive Director, Ms. Najla Mohammed Al-Sayyad.

In his opening remarks, Minister Al-Zaouri welcomed the Board members: Mr. Abubakar Ba'abad, President of the Aden Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Mr. Awadh Mesbeh, Deputy Minister of Local Administration; Mr. Wessam Qaid, Acting Executive Director of the Social Fund for Development; and Mr. Mohsen Hassan Alawi, Director General of the Public Works Project (Aden, Lahj, Abyan).

His Excellency highlighted the severe financial challenges confronting the Fund, characterized by constrained financial resources, notably a decline in government support, a complete absence of grants and donations, and the suspension of the Fund's share of Zakat revenues.

Despite these adversities, he emphatically stated that the Fund must steadfastly fulfill its pioneering role in strengthening the social protection system for its beneficiaries, underscoring an unwavering commitment to its core humanitarian and social mission.

Following this, the Executive Director, Ms. Najla Al-Sayyad, presented the key components of the proposed general budget for the Social Welfare Fund for the fiscal year 2026. She clarified that the budget was prepared in accordance with the Circular for the Fiscal Year 2016, its accompanying indicators, and the explanatory memorandum provided to the Chairman and Board members.

The budget proposal was then thoroughly discussed by the Board members. It was subsequently approved following the incorporation of their valuable insights and observations.
