Our country, represented by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor and the Ministry of Education, took part in the regional workshop on strengthening child protection and education in armed conflicts.
The event was organized by the Analysis and Outreach Unit of the Office of the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict, in partnership with the League of Arab States, on September 29–30, 2025, in Cairo.
The workshop was technically supported by the UNESCO Regional Office for the Gulf States and Yemen, the UNICEF Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa, and the Global Coalition to Protect Education from Attack. More than 30 officials and experts from across the Arab world participated.
During the sessions, Saleh Mahmoud Hassan Abu Suhail, Deputy Minister of Social Affairs and Labor for the Social Welfare Sector, presented key features of the National Child Protection Plan 2026–2029, which the ministry intends to launch later this month.
Meanwhile, Dr. Aref Al-Qutaibi, Director of Remedial Education at the Ministry of Education, delivered a presentation on Yemen’s efforts to implement international agreements on child protection in armed conflicts and to ensure access to education in partnership with international, regional, and civil society organizations.
Participants exchanged innovative practices and experiences in the field of child protection, while also discussing challenges and opportunities to expand children’s access to education in conflict and fragile contexts.
They were also introduced to the global campaign “Prove It Matters,” which aims to empower children to voice their perspectives on safeguarding their rights.
UNESCO and the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict reaffirmed their continued commitment to supporting efforts to rehabilitate children affected by conflicts, reintegrate them into society, and guarantee their right to quality education.
This participation comes within the framework of our country’s commitment to implementing the Children and Armed Conflict agenda and advancing regional cooperation to protect child rights, in line with the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Arab League’s comprehensive plan to curb the recruitment of children in armed conflicts
