His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Saeed Al-Zaouri, Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, held a meeting this Thursday morning, May 22, 2025, at his office in the Ministry’s headquarters. The meeting included the Deputy Minister for the Social Welfare Sector, Mr. Saleh Mahmoud Hassan Abu Suhail, and directors of relevant departments within the sector.
The meeting was dedicated to discussing social assistance and the humanitarian support provided by organizations and institutions, especially with the upcoming occasion of Eid al-Adha and amid the difficult economic and living conditions facing our people.
During the meeting, Minister Al-Zaouri directed the expedited approval of project proposals submitted by humanitarian institutions and organizations, particularly those related to the distribution of sacrificial animals. He emphasized the need to handle these projects with special consideration due to the holiday, enabling the concerned bodies to distribute the sacrifices to beneficiaries in a timely manner.
His Excellency also instructed the General Department of Social Assistance to coordinate with relevant departments at the Ministry’s headquarters and its offices in the governorates to supervise and facilitate the distribution of aid provided by donors, humanitarian organizations, the private sector, and philanthropists on the occasion of Eid al-Adha.
At the end of the meeting, the Ministry’s leadership and its relevant departments issued a humanitarian appeal to all active humanitarian entities, including organizations, institutions, the private sector, and donors. The appeal read:
> “As we approach the blessed Eid al-Adha, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor in the capital, Aden, calls upon all active humanitarian actors—organizations, institutions, the private sector, and donors—to extend support and assistance to poor and most vulnerable families, to help them meet their Eid needs, including sacrificial animals, clothing, and essential items for their children. Your support brings smiles to children's faces and reminds them that Eid is a time of joy and celebration for everyone, without exception.”
In a related context, Minister Al-Zaouri highlighted the pivotal role of women, especially under the difficult circumstances the country is going through. He stressed the Ministry’s clear and unwavering stance in supporting women, securing their rights, and empowering them economically and politically, as well as promoting their active participation in societal issues and achieving sustainable development.
This came during his speech to participants in the training course on “Gender-Based Violence and Case Management,” where he affirmed that southern women have always been an integral part of the liberation and nation-building journey. They played an active role in the struggle to restore the southern state, from resisting British colonialism to participating in the Southern Movement and political engagement.
Minister Al-Zaouri also reaffirmed his full support for public demands to restore dignity and confront manifestations of oppression, hunger, and poor basic services such as electricity, water, and education.
He concluded his speech by referencing the ongoing cooperation between the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor and UN Women in Yemen, particularly in implementing the “Protecting Women Leading to Community Development” program. This initiative aims to enhance the protection of women and girls who are survivors of gender-based violence and to empower them to contribute to development.
