The ministerial committee assigned to evaluate associations and institutions working in the field of disability—funded by the Fund for the Care and Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities—continued its fieldwork under the chairmanship of the Deputy Minister of Social Affairs and Labor for the Social Welfare Sector.

This morning, the committee carried out an inspection visit to assess the performance and services of associations serving persons with disabilities in Lahj Governorate.

The committee visited the Association for the Care and Rehabilitation of the Deaf and Mute, the Association for the Care and Rehabilitation of the Blind, the Down Syndrome Association, the Association for the Care and Rehabilitation of the Physically Disabled, and the Al-Hayat Association for Children with Cerebral Palsy.

During the visit, the committee—received by Mr. Saeb Abdulaziz Shukri, Director of the Social Affairs and Labor Office in the governorate—met with the heads, administrative members, and teachers of the respective associations. At the outset, the Deputy Minister conveyed the greetings of His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Saeed Al-Zauri, Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, who places great importance on this group and continuously directs efforts to ease and overcome the challenges faced by associations serving persons with disabilities, enabling them to provide their services effectively.

He pointed out that the Ministry operates within its available resources, primarily through the Fund for the Care and Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities, which faces considerable financial challenges related to revenue generation. The Deputy Minister further called on civil society organizations, philanthropists, businesspeople, and international organizations to extend all forms of support to this highly vulnerable group that is in urgent need of assistance.

For his part, Mr. Saeb Abdulaziz Shukri, Director of the Social Affairs and Labor Office, praised the positive initiative taken by the Ministry to evaluate the activities of disability associations and to address the difficulties they face. He expressed his appreciation to H.E. Dr. Mohammed Saeed Al-Zauri, Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, for his ongoing efforts and dedication to supporting persons with disabilities.

During the visit, the committee reviewed the services, programs, and activities provided by the associations to children, students, and members of the disabled community in Lahj. It also examined the obstacles and needs of these associations in order to enhance and improve the quality of services delivered to this social group. A detailed report on the findings will be submitted to Minister Al-Zauri.

The committee will continue its field visits in the coming days, according to a pre-established plan, to include other associations and institutions working in the field of disability in both Lahj and Abyan governorates.

The committee, chaired by Mr. Saleh Mahmoud, Deputy Minister for the Social Welfare Sector, included Ms. I’tidal Abdulmajid Salam, the Minister’s Advisor for Disability Affairs; Mr. Alaa Abdul-Lah, Director General of Financial Auditing at the Fund for the Care and Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities; Mr. Adnan Saeed Ali, Director General of Public Relations and Media; and Ms. Munea Azzani, Head of the Technical Office. The committee was accompanied during the visit by Ms. Tharwat Okasha, Director of Associations at the Social Affairs and Labor Office in the governorate
