His Excellency the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Mr. Mukhtar Al-Yafaei, reviewed today the activities and programs of the Social Welfare Fund – Head Office in the capital, Aden, during a field visit accompanied by his Deputy, Dr. Sadeq Al-Jamaei. The visit aimed to assess the workflow and identify the challenges facing the Fund.

Minister Al-Yafaei emphasized the Fund’s pivotal role in delivering social welfare services to beneficiaries, alleviating poverty, and easing the suffering of the most vulnerable groups.

His Excellency listened to a comprehensive briefing from the Fund’s Executive Director, Najla Al-Sayad, on the Fund’s plans and programs for the upcoming phase, as well as the difficulties arising from the widening poverty gap and the suspension of the cash transfer project.

The meeting also reviewed the Fund’s proposed general budget for the year 2026, highlighting its role within the social safety net system in strengthening the values of solidarity and cooperation between the state and society.

Minister Al-Yafaei stressed the need to intensify efforts to address current challenges, foremost among them the scarcity of resources due to weak government support and the suspension of the Fund’s share of zakat revenues, according to the Fund leadership’s briefing. The meeting further discussed the Fund’s plans in the areas of training, qualification, and capacity building.

 The Minister commended the leadership’s efforts to activate the Fund’s branches in the liberated governorates and to update the beneficiaries’ database through field surveys in districts with the greatest needs.

At the conclusion of the visit, the Minister toured the Fund’s departments and met with staff members, congratulating them on the advent of the holy month of Ramadan and expressing appreciation for their efforts despite the difficult economic conditions and limited resources.
