Under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Dr. Mohammed Saeed Al-Zaouri, the Safe Space for Women and Girl Survivors at the Ministry's General Office in the capital, Aden, launched this morning the distribution of livelihood kits for the beneficiaries of the Economic Empowerment Program. The program is implemented by the Ministry in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), which funded the project through the Humanitarian Access Foundation for Development.
In a speech during the launch ceremony, His Excellency Minister Al-Zaouri congratulated the beneficiaries on receiving comprehensive work supplies in their professional fields of specialization. He urged them to maintain the tools and equipment delivered to them to ensure the continuity of their benefit, enabling them economically to implement mini-projects to provide living requirements. This aims to achieve the goals of social protection in the long term.
Minister Al-Zaouri emphasized the importance of supporting and enhancing the activities of safe spaces for women and girls in various provinces, considering them a fundamental pillar in protecting women's rights from gender-based violence. He affirmed the Ministry's keenness to facilitate all necessary procedures for the success of these vital projects targeting women. He also praised the distinguished relationship and fruitful cooperation between the Ministry and the United Nations Population Fund, and its continuous support for a number of developmental and humanitarian projects in our country, foremost among them being the projects of safe spaces for women and girl survivors of the effects of war.
For her part, Sister Marina Abdulrahman, Head of the Gender Program Unit at the United Nations Population Fund, expressed her appreciation for the active role played by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor under the leadership of Minister Al-Zaouri in serving the community. She called on the beneficiaries to make optimal use of the kits, work on mini-projects, and maintain continuous communication with the specialists in the Ministry to overcome any difficulties they might face.
At the beginning of the ceremony, Professor Faiza Abdulmajeed Mohammed Saleh, the Acting Deputy Minister for the Social Protection Sector, welcomed His Excellency Minister Al-Zaouri and his launching of the distribution of kits to the project beneficiaries. She thanked him for his support and continuous encouragement of women's empowerment efforts, expressing her appreciation to the United Nations Population Fund for its support of the Economic Empowerment Program and its provision of livelihood kits for the beneficiaries. She urged the beneficiaries to apply the skills they acquired during their training at the safe space to achieve the desired goal.
At the conclusion of the event, His Excellency Minister Mohammed Saeed Al-Zaouri distributed livelihood kits to 57 beneficiaries in the field of tailoring, which included sewing machines and their complete supplies, in addition to 45 beneficiaries in the field of hairdressing who received fully equipped professional kits
