Dr. Mohammed Saeed Al-Zawari, Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, met this morning in Aden with Dr. Iman Al-Shanqeeti, Deputy Resident Coordinator of the United Nations for Humanitarian Affairs in Yemen, to discuss various issues related to humanitarian and development efforts.

During the meeting, Minister Al-Zawari emphasized the importance of transitioning from emergency relief efforts to sustainable recovery and economic empowerment programs. He stressed the need for long-term economic and development projects that create job opportunities for youth and alleviate the severe living crisis facing the Yemeni people.

The minister expressed the internationally recognized Yemeni government's appreciation for the efforts of the UN and international organizations operating in Yemen. He reaffirmed the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor's readiness to facilitate the success of UN humanitarian and development missions, ensuring that aid reaches those in need across all provinces.

Minister Al-Zawari also highlighted the economic and living challenges in the country, pointing to the economic war waged by the Houthi terrorist militias against state resources. He noted that this has led to the collapse of the local currency and the deterioration of essential services, threatening food security. In response, the ministry launched an urgent appeal yesterday to UN organizations, international agencies, and donors to mobilize support and provide emergency humanitarian aid to address the worsening crisis in southern and liberated areas.

The minister reaffirmed the Yemeni government’s commitment to fulfilling the pledges it made during the 2023 Global Refugee Forum. He urged the international community to support its efforts in meeting these commitments, stressing the importance of providing humanitarian assistance to migrants, refugees, and internally displaced persons while facilitating their voluntary return in coordination with the ministry and relevant government agencies.

For her part, Dr. Iman Al-Shanqeeti outlined the UN’s future plans and reiterated the organization’s support for the Yemeni government’s efforts to enhance economic recovery and mitigate the humanitarian crisis. She emphasized the UN’s dedication to coordinating with partners to support development programs and projects while working on sustainable solutions for displacement issues in collaboration with the ministry and other relevant authorities.

The meeting was attended by several officials.
