Minister Al-Zaouri meets UNICEF's cash transfer programme manager.

H.E. Dr. Mohammed Saeed Al-Zaouri, Minister of Social Affairs and Labour, met this morning at his office in Aden with Mr. Gianluca Bono, UNICEF's Cash Transfer Programme Manager in Yemen.
During the meeting, Minister Al-Zaouri discussed with Mr Gianluca the new emergency cash transfer project funded by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and UNICEF and the criteria for targeting and distribution to the beneficiaries.
Minister Zaouri reiterated the Ministry's firm position that any discussions or proposals on the new project must be in accordance with understandings and agreement with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour, represented by the Social Welfare Fund, in order to achieve justice in distribution among the governorates. He noted that the Ministry's leadership has already presented its technical vision on the distribution process through its technical team participating in the first workshop held in Jordan and the second in Cairo.
During the meeting, Minister Zaoury emphasised that the difficult living conditions, increasing poverty rates, rising prices and the weak purchasing value of the local currency require increased funding and grants for the new project to target the poorest groups and increase the financial amounts.
During the meeting, Minister Zaouri stressed the importance of assigning the main role to the Social Welfare Fund and its branches in the southern governorates and liberated areas to carry out their legal role to implement the project, build the capacities of its staff, and collect beneficiary data.
For his part, the Director of the UNICEF Cash Transfer Programme expressed his appreciation for the efforts of His Excellency Minister Zaoury in activating the role of the partnership between UNICEF and the Ministry, and his continuous calls for continued support from donors, stressing that the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour is the basis for the new cash transfer project through the responsibility entrusted to it, and through discussions and understandings, everyone will reach a correct vision that achieves the principle of justice in distribution.
The meeting was attended by Saleh Mahmoud Abu Suhail, Undersecretary of the Ministry for Social Welfare Sector, Ms. Fayza Abdul Majeed, Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry for Social Development Sector, Munif Al-Mahrabi, Director General of Legal Affairs, Director of the Minister's Office, Ihab Mohammed Babresh, Director General of Social Defence, Adnan Saeed, Director General of Relations and Media, Minya Azzani, Director General of Social Assistance, Najla Al-Sayyad, Executive Director of the Social Welfare Fund, Talib Hamed Al-Haj, Director General of Beneficiary Development in the Social Welfare Fund, Majid Al-Shajri, Director of the Welfare Fund Branch in Aden, and Ms. Anna Rita - Project Manager in the Social Welfare Unit.
