Ministry of Social Affairs and UNICEF Sign Child Protection and Social Policies Plans

His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Saeed Al-Zauri, Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, met this morning at his office in the capital, Aden, with the UNICEF Resident Representative in Yemen, Mr. Peter Hawkins, and his deputy, Mr. Myo Nemoto

During the meeting, Minister Al-Zauri welcomed the call from Mr. António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, for UN agencies and international organizations to relocate their headquarters to Aden. He emphasized that this move would ensure the safety of their staff and the continuity of their activities, away from the oppression of the terrorist Houthi militias. He assured that the ministry would provide all necessary facilities to enable these organizations to carry out their work smoothly and securely.

The minister also highlighted the strong partnership between the ministry and UNICEF, expressing his aspiration to enhance cooperation and coordination. He stressed the importance of including sustainable developmental and economic projects in future plans and programs at various levels.

 

For his part, Mr. Peter Hawkins praised the outstanding relationship between UNICEF and the ministry, expressing his pride in this partnership and his commitment to strengthening and developing it further. He noted that the capital, Aden, offers a safe environment that allows UNICEF and other international agencies and organizations to operate freely and implement their plans and programs. He also commended the successes achieved by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor and the significant progress in various sectors.

Following the discussions, the Child Protection and Social Policies Plans for 2025-2026 were signed. The agreement was signed on behalf of the ministry by Saleh Mahmoud Hassan, Deputy Minister for Social Welfare, and on behalf of UNICEF by Resident Representative Peter Hawkins.
