Al-Zaouri Discusses Strengthening Partnership and Coordination with the ILO Director-General in All Fields

Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Dr. Mohammed Saeed Al-Zaouri, met today with the Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), Gilbert Houngbo, to discuss support for projects and programs in Yemen and to continue strengthening partnership and cooperation in all fields.


During the meeting, the minister reviewed the challenges facing the labor market and workforce in the country, which resulted from the war waged by the terrorist Houthi militias. This conflict has caused severe damage to the economy and private sector, leading to the loss of thousands of jobs and sources of income. He emphasized the government's efforts to improve the labor sector in Yemen.


Minister Al-Zaouri called for joint efforts and mobilization of support to assist the government in its ongoing efforts to enhance the labor market.


He also condemned the violations committed by Houthi militias against employees of UN agencies and international organizations, stressing that such actions require a firm stance from the international community. He highlighted the importance of relocating the main offices of international agencies and organizations to Aden, reaffirming the government's commitment to providing full support and facilitation for their operations.


For his part, ILO Director-General Gilbert Houngbo affirmed that the organization would implement several urgent projects in Aden this year and instructed the regional office to work directly with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor. He also reiterated the commitment to ongoing partnership and coordination with the ministry in all areas.


The UN official praised the government's efforts to improve the labor market, expressing full support for these initiatives and the organization's readiness to assist.


Additionally, he commended Minister Al-Zaouri's speech at the roundtable opening, which was attended by representatives from 40 countries. The speech highlighted the ministry’s role, achievements, and successful initiatives. He also acknowledged the minister’s efforts in organizing the labor sector and effectively carrying out his duties.
