His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Saeed Al-Zaouri, Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, chaired the regular meeting of the Ministry’s Council at the Ministry’s headquarters this morning. The meeting reviewed several key institutional performance issues, including draft resolutions to be submitted to the Council of Ministers and the Maritime Labor Convention.

In his address to the Council, Minister Al-Zaouri highlighted the recent improvement in the exchange rate, emphasizing that it must be followed by a decline in the prices of essential commodities, which had witnessed consecutive increases in recent months. He called for continued government efforts to implement economic reforms aimed at alleviating the living burden on citizens and ensuring a swift response to the improvement in the national currency.

He reaffirmed the correctness of the Ministry’s long-standing position in advocating for the relocation of the headquarters of banks and international and UN organizations to the capital, Aden, and enforcing the transfer of donor foreign currency grants to the Central Bank in Aden—measures whose positive impact is now being felt.

In the same context, the Ministry’s leadership commended the exceptional efforts of President Aidarous Qassem Al-Zubaidi in confronting the “services war,” taking decisive measures to strengthen the economy, ease the suffering of citizens, and achieve a historic recovery of the Yemeni Riyal against foreign currencies—an improvement that has positively affected the prices of foodstuffs and essential daily needs.

The meeting also discussed scheduling the draft resolutions to be submitted to the Cabinet, including the Strategic Framework for Social Protection, the National Child Protection Plan, and the National Authority for Relief and Emergency. The Council approved the formation of a committee headed by Deputy Minister for Social Care Affairs, Saleh Mahmoud, to prepare and review the Ministry’s statistical report after updating sectoral data.

Additionally, the meeting directed preparations for the upcoming launch of the Ministry’s electronic platform in the coming days.

Regarding the Maritime Labor Convention, the Council stressed the importance of aligning with the updated provisions of the convention, which set specific standards for the work and living conditions of seafarers on commercial vessels. The convention aims to safeguard seafarers’ rights and ensure they work under decent conditions. In line with the understandings reached with the Minister of Transport, Minister Al-Zaouri instructed the swift review of the convention’s articles with the relevant authorities at the Ministry of Transport and the submission of the outcomes.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Minister Al-Zaouri emphasized the need to implement all assigned tasks within the specified timeframe and to follow up on the
